Altertox’s mission is to promote the replacement of laboratory animals. Alternative methods exist and are available to researchers, but at present too few laboratories use them.

Altertox has a portfolio of communication, dissemination, education, consultancy and lobbying activities. What makes Altertox unique is that these activities are tailored to meet the specific needs of its clients (academic, private and government sectors). Altertox sells products (educational games) and services (consultancy and communication).

Through its activities, Altertox supports researchers at all levels (from experimental design, to the implementation of alternative methods, the interpretation and dissemination of results, the exploitation of new technologies), including conversations with regulators and legislators.

Altertox was founded and is based in Brussels, from where it operates throughout Europe (Altertox is a key partner in several European consortia funded by Horizon 2020) and internationally (Altertox is present at events and meetings in North America in particular).

Altertox works with scientists to support research and science policy (Science for Policy).
